Selected Designer

Héba Elkomy, Egypt

Héba Elkomy is a Theatre artist based in Egypt where she works as a scenic & costume designer, actor, director, and Theatre educator. A former practicing architect, Héba's design work includes scenery and costumes for The House of Rose at Cairo's Vanguard Theatre, scenery for The Haunted House and set design for the Egyptian YouTube series Live Show. Héba is a Fulbright Scholar, having studied and designed at Rutgers University where she designed scenery for Rutger's production of The Busybody. In addition to designing for the stage, she also frequently performs onstage in such roles as Natasha in The Lower Depths and Kate in All My Sons at The Cairo Opera House and directed Unscripted (The Children of Our Alley) for Cairo University Theater. Originally from Alexandria, Héba lives in Cairo with her daughter Gamila who graciously permitted her mom to leave her in Cairo so she could share her talents with the Wake Forest community. It was quite a sacrifice.

Héba put together a compelling and well-considered design for the Ring Theatre. After selecting Héba as our designer for Silent Sky, director Cindy Gendrich decided that the design would work better for the production if it were on the Tedford Stage. Héba and Cindy worked closely to adapt the deign for a proscenium space rather than a thrust and the production process began. See the journey from submission to production below.
